Nestled in the glittering
snowfields above Ogden, Utah, Snowbasin began in 1940 as a "huge public
playground". Today, over 60 years after its creation, it has grown into
a nationally-recognized ski area, complete with downhill runs
challenging enough to host the 2001 Men's World Cup and the 2002 Winter
Olympic Downhill and Super G events. This resort, which includes 53 runs
covering 3,200 acres of packed trails, powder bowls, and lush glades, is
noted for its excellent grooming and snow conditions, hospitality, and
friendly atmosphere. In addition, 3 brand new mountain day lodges/
restaurants will host all guests with excellent food and skier services.
9 lifts and 2 new gondolas service the mountain. |
With over 500 inches of snow
a year, Powder Mountain certainly lives up to its name. Add to the equation
5,500 ski-able acres and you can find untracked powder most any day
during the season. Groomed runs serviced by lifts are mellow and
easy-going with 50% of the runs rated intermediate. The mountain's claim
to fame, however, is the backcountry skiing. Snow-cat rides and shuttles
allow skiers to rip up the deep snow over steep, open faces. For real
adventure, try the heli-ski runs up to James Peak. A half pipe and other
terrain park features attract boarders with many staying for the fun
under the lights during night skiing. |
